U.S. Secretary of State Rubio asserted that the International Criminal Court (ICC) threatens U.S. sovereignty and must be "dismantled."
In an op-ed for *The Wall Street Journal* published on the 13th, Secretary Rubio declared that the U.S. would move to dismantle the ICC.
Rubio strongly criticized the ICC's 2020 decision to authorize an investigation into alleged war crimes by U.S. troops in Afghanistan, calling it "🔴an attack on American self-governance🔴."
He emphasized that
🟢the United States never consented to the creation of an international tribunal that could override its own Constitution and judicial system.🟢
The State Department also issued a statement
🔵labeling the ICC a threat to U.S. sovereignty, 🔵
outlining a policy to urge allies to withdraw from the court and to intensify sanctions against the ICC and related organizations.
While the ICC is an international judicial body established to prosecute crimes such as war crimes,
the United States is not a member and has previously imposed sanctions on the court over investigations targeting the U.S. and Israel.
Tomoko Akane of Japan has served as the President of the ICC since 2024.

アメリカのルビオ国務長官はICC＝国際刑事裁判所がアメリカの主権を脅かしているとして「解体する」と主張しました。
アメリカのルビオ国務長官は13日、「ウォール・ストリート・ジャーナル」に寄稿し、ICC＝国際刑事裁判所について「解体していく」と表明しました。
ルビオ氏はICCが2020年にアフガニスタンでのアメリカ軍兵士の行動をめぐり、戦争犯罪の捜査を認めたことについて「アメリカの自治に対する攻撃だ」などと強く批判。「アメリカは自国の憲法や裁判を上書きするような国際法廷の設立には同意していない」と強調しました。
さらに、国務省もICCを「アメリカの主権への脅威だ」とする声明を発表し、▼同盟国にICC脱退を呼びかけるほか、▼ICCや関連組織に制裁を強化していく方針を示しました。
ICCは戦争犯罪などを追及するために設立された国際司法機関ですが、アメリカは加盟しておらず、これまでもアメリカやイスラエルへの捜査をめぐってICCに制裁を科すなどしてきています。
ICCでは2024年から日本の赤根智子氏が所長を務めています。
